Gala at Harmonie Club draws Business and Community Leaders for Support of New Chabad North Haven in the Hamptons

The December Chanukah with the Stars Gala benefiting Chabad North Haven in the Hamptons held at the Harmonie Club in New York City was a resounding success. Business leaders, academics, community leaders and policy makers came together to pay tribute to a new congregation in the Hamptons and to the evening’s honorees, Robert Gilman of Morgan Stanley and his wife Jan who received the Chesed Award and Oren and Tal Alexander of Douglass Elliman who received the Young Leadership Award.

An air of celebration and giving back coupled with delicious food, drink and entertainment descended upon the third floor ballroom at the Harmonie Club. More than 225 guests who arrived from near and far, braving the first snow of the season amidst a very busy social calendar came to show support to a cause that is dear to them!

The evening’s keynote speaker was Dr. David Pollock, a Kaufman Fellow at the Washington Institute, who had previously served as Senior Advisor on the Middle East at the State Department and is the former Chief of near East/South Asia/Africa Research at the U.S. Information Agency. Dr. Pollock raised eyebrows when he declared that ISIS is a minor threat which is well contained by US efforts to thwart the ISIS advancement.

Dr. Gail Mellow, president of LaGuardia Community College of which Mr. Gilman is a member of the President’s Advisory Council, was happy to present the Chesed Award to Robert and Jan Gilman. “Robert and his wife Jan are dear friends of ours. Their work on behalf of the Jewish community is exemplary. It is our honor to have the Chesed Award presented to them" said Rabbi Berel Lerman, spiritual leader of Chabad North Haven in The Hamptons. “Jan and I are honored to receive this award from Chabad, an organization with which we have become familiar in the last year and half. Chabad offers a singularly unique connection to Jewish spirituality” said Robert Gilman

Mr. Dan Reingold, CEO of Hebrew Home at Riverdale presented the Young Leadership Award to Oren and Tal Alexnader. “Oren and Tal have successfuly demonstrated how traditional Jewish values can play an inspiring role in the fast-paced and career oriented society of today!” said Rabbi Lerman
A musical tribute to the founding of Chabad which was observed on the evening of the event was led by Cantor A. Huruwitz accompanied by the Metropolitan Klezmer Orchestra.

“Chabad North Haven in the Hamptons is only two seasons old and we are thrilled by the wonderful turnout tonight. Please join us for any of our programs, including: Kabbalah Classes, Hebrew School Comes to Your Home, community Shabbat dinner and lunches, prayer services and much more” remarked Rabbi Lerman.
